It is a secondary alpha-hydroxy ketone, a polyphenol, an aromatic ether, a member of 1-benzofurans and a flavonolignan. Silychristin is a plant growth regulator, is an anti-hepatotoxic agent, is also an inhibitor of horseradish peroxidases and lipoxygenase.
