Pterostilbene
Pterostilbene acts as a peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor alpha (PPARalpha) agonist, it has been implicated in anticarcinogenesis, antioxidant, modulation of neurological disease, anti-inflammation, attenuation of vascular disease, and amelioration of diabetes. Pterostilbene downregulates inflammatory iNOS and COX-2 gene expression in macrophages by inhibiting the activation of NFkappaB by interfering with the activation of PI3K/Akt/IKK and MAPK. Pterostilbene may protect HUVECs against oxLDL-induced apoptosis by downregulating LOX-1-mediated activation through a pathway involving oxidative stress, p53, mitochondria, cytochrome c and caspase protease. Pterostilbene is a stilbenol that consists of trans-stilbene bearing a hydroxy group at position 4 as well as two methoxy substituents at positions 3' and 5'. It has a role as an antioxidant, a neurotransmitter, a hypoglycemic agent, an antineoplastic agent, a radical scavenger, a neuroprotective agent, an anti-inflammatory agent, an apoptosis inducer and a plant metabolite. It is a stilbenol, a diether and a member of methoxybenzenes. It derives from a hydride of a trans-stilbene.

Osthenol
Osthenol shows antitumor-promoting activity, it also has antifungal and antibacterial activities.Osthenol potently and selectively inhibited recombinant human monoamine oxidase-A (hMAO-A) with an IC50 value of 0.74 μM; it exhibited a highly potent inhibitory activity on 5alpha-reductase type I in LNCaP cells with an IC50 value of 0.1 microg/ml; it also exhibited inhibitory activity on COX-1 with the IC50 value of 64.3 microM. Osthenol is a hydroxycoumarin that is umbelliferone in which the hydrogen at position 8 has been replaced by a prenyl group. It has a role as an antifungal agent and a plant metabolite. It is functionally related to an umbelliferone.
