The 5-hydroxytryptamine receptor 1A (HTR1A), also known as 5-HT1A, is a G protein-coupled receptor that binds the neurotransmitter serotonin. It is widely distributed in the central nervous system, particularly in the hippocampus, raphe nuclei, and cortex, playing a crucial role in mood regulation, anxiety, cognition, and sleep. HTR1A acts as an autoreceptor on serotonergic neurons, modulating serotonin release, and as a heteroreceptor on non-serotonergic neurons.
