Scopolamine is a non subtype selective muscarinic and nicotinic acetylcholine receptor antagonist. Scopolamine is used in traditional Chinese medicine research for various diseases, mainly for improving microcirculation in shock state, and can also be used for organophosphate poisoning.

It has a role as an EC 3.6.3.9 (Na(+)/K(+)-transporting ATPase) inhibitor. It is an epoxy steroid and a steroid lactone. It is functionally related to a bufanolide.
