Andrographolide is a labdane diterpenoid isolated from the leaves and roots of Andrographis paniculata that exhibits anti-HIV, anti-inflammatory and antineoplastic properties. It has a role as a metabolite, an anti-inflammatory drug, an antineoplastic agent and an anti-HIV agent. It is a primary alcohol, a secondary alcohol, a labdane diterpenoid, a carbobicyclic compound and a gamma-lactone. Andrographolide is an antiinflammatory, antiviral, anti-cancer , hepatoprotective, antithrombotic, hypotensive and antiatherosclerotic drug, it can cure hyperpigmentation disorders. Andrographolide protects against chemical-induced oxidative damage by up-regulating the gene transcription and activity of antioxidant enzymes in various tissues.Andrographolide has potential as a leading compound in the prevention or treatment of obesity and insulin resistance, can ameliorate lipid metabolism and improve glucose use in mice with HFD-induced obesity. Andrographolide is an NF - κ B inhibitor that inhibits NF - κ B activation by covalently modifying cysteine residues of p50 in endothelial cells, without affecting I κ B alpha degradation or p50/p65 nuclear translocation. Andrographolide has antiviral effects.
