The structural types of sesquiterpenes in Elephantopus scaber Linn. mainly involve gimarane-type, guaiacum-type and elemene-type, etc. Ten sesquiterpene compounds were isolated and identified from Elephantopus scaber Linn. Among them, gimarane-type lactones are the main skeleton types of the sesquiterpene lactones of Elephantopus scaber Linn. At present, we isolated and obtained scabertopin，isoxyelephantopin, isoscabertopin with anti-hepatocellular carcinoma cell (SMMC-7721) activity, and deoxyelephantopin, elephantopin, 11,13-dihydrodeoxyelephantopin, and scabertopinol.
