Ginsenoside Rf is a trace component of ginseng root, which has antinociception, analgesia, anti-inflammatory, and anti-cancer activities, it induces G2/Mphase cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in human osteosarcoma MG-63 cells through the mitochondrial pathway. Rf can act through a novel G protein-linked receptor in the nervous system by inhibiting N-type Ca2+ channel. Rf significantly reduces the production of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, NO, and ROS, and suppresses TNF-α/LPS-induced NF-κB transcriptional activity. Ginsenoside Rf is a ginsenoside found in Panax ginseng and Panax japonicus var. major that is dammarane which is substituted by hydroxy groups at the 3beta, 6alpha, 12beta and 20 pro-S positions, in which the hydroxy group at position 6 has been converted to the corresponding beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(12)-beta-D-glucopyranoside, and in which a double bond has been introduced at the 24-25 position. It has a role as an antineoplastic agent, an apoptosis inducer and a plant metabolite.
